Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps once said, “I think goals should never be easy, they should force you to work, even if they are uncomfortable at the time.”

This idea of goals being uncomfortable hits home for many businesses. Why? Creating these goals cannot happen until we honestly ask ourselves what is working, what isn’t working, and what we can learn from those things. Thinking of all the positive things may be fun, but digging deeper into what is going wrong causes many to clinch their fists and ignore the realities right in from of them.

Here at the Marketing Squad, we use a system called Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) that helps push us towards creating quality personal and organizational goals. Ideally, all of these goals are SMART goals. If you’ve never heard of SMART goals, they are an acronym that stands for:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time-bound

Though it’s difficult, creating goals that meet these criteria sets an organization up for success. A business without goals is like a movie without a plot; it’s just a bunch of characters moving around aimlessly with no growth mindset.

So check out this video and join Bryce and Alex as they discuss what it looks like to set quality goals for your business.
